Reliability and understated elegance: the Seiko 5 SNK381K1 in black, 37mm, 30m
Collection
The Seiko SNK381K1 belongs to the Seiko 5 series, which has been produced continuously for over six decades. It is one of the rare entry-level automatics that relies on an in-house caliber: the 7S26, which is reliable and inexpensive to maintain. It features a 37mm case, 30m water resistance, and an exhibition case back to view the rotor.
Case
Made of stainless steel, the case of the Seiko SNK381K1 measures 37mm in diameter and is 11mm thick. The bezel is fixed. The dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. Its water resistance is 30m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNK381K1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not have hacking (seconds hand stop for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy hovers around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SNK381K1, secured by a deployment clasp, consistently complements the case. The lug width is 18mm.
