The Seiko 5 SNK578J1 in Green: Automatic 7S26, 37mm Case, 30m
Collection
The Seiko SNK578J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 series, which has been continuously produced for over six decades. It is one of the few entry-level automatics to rely on an in-house caliber: the 7S26, which is reliable and inexpensive to maintain. It features a 37mm case, 30m water resistance, and an exhibition case back to observe the rotor.
Case
Made of stainless steel, the case of the Seiko SNK578J1 measures 37mm in diameter and is 11mm thick. The bezel is fixed. The dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is an exhibition (transparent) type, allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 30m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNK578J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not feature hacking (stop-seconds for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy oscillates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Strap
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SNK578J1, secured by a folding clasp, complements the case coherently. The lug width is 18mm.
