Accessible Japanese automatic: Seiko 5 SNK789K1, 37 mm, white dial
Collection
The Seiko SNK789K1 belongs to the Seiko 5 series, continuously produced for over six decades. It is one of the few entry-level automatics to rely on an in-house caliber: the 7S26, reliable and low-cost to maintain. 37mm case, 30m water resistance, exhibition case back to observe the rotor.
Case
Made of stainless steel, the case of the Seiko SNK789K1 measures 37 mm in diameter and 11 mm in thickness. The bezel is fixed. The dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a Seiko proprietary treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. Water resistance is 30 m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNK789K1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not have hacking (stop seconds for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent from this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy hovers around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SNK789K1, fastened by a deployant clasp, complements the case with consistency. The lug width is 18 mm.
