Accessible Japanese Automatic: Seiko 5 SNKC51J1, 37mm, Blue Dial
Collection
The Seiko SNKC51J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 range, one of the most iconic lines in Japanese watchmaking. Launched in 1963, this collection embodies accessible automatic watches: 37mm case, 21-jewel 7S26 caliber, 30m water resistance. Note: the 7S26 does not feature hacking or manual winding — an intentional characteristic of this entry-level caliber.
Case
The case of the Seiko SNKC51J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 37 mm and a thickness of 11 mm. The bezel is fixed. The blue dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. Water resistance is 30m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNKC51J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not feature hacking (stop-second function for time setting) or manual winding — two intentionally absent functions on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy oscillates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The Seiko SNKC51J1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, which is both robust and easy to maintain, closed by a folding clasp, which facilitates putting on and taking off the watch by securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 18 mm.
