Reliability and understated elegance: the Seiko 5 SNKD99K1 in blue, 37mm, 30m
Collection
The Seiko SNKD99K1 belongs to the Seiko 5 range, one of the most iconic lines in Japanese watchmaking. Launched in 1963, this collection embodies accessible automatic watches: 37mm case, 7S26 21-jewel calibre, 30m water resistance. Note: the 7S26 does not feature hacking or manual winding — an intentional characteristic of this entry-level calibre.
Case
The case of the Seiko SNKD99K1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 37mm and a thickness of 11mm. The bezel is fixed. The blue dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is an exhibition (transparent) type, allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 30m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNKD99K1 is powered by the automatic calibre 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not feature hacking (stopping the second hand for time setting) or manual winding — two intentionally absent functions in this entry-level calibre. Its accuracy fluctuates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The Seiko SNKD99K1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, both robust and easy to maintain, fastened by a folding clasp, which facilitates putting on and taking off the watch while securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 18mm.
