Golden Hues and Accessible Mechanics: Seiko 5 SNKK38J1, 37mm, 30m
Collection
The Seiko SNKK38J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 range, one of the most iconic lines in Japanese watchmaking. Launched in 1963, this collection embodies accessible automatic watches: 37mm case, 7S26 21-jewel caliber, 30m water resistance. Note: the 7S26 does not have hacking or manual winding—an intentional characteristic of this entry-level caliber.
Case
The case of the Seiko SNKK38J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 37 mm and a thickness of 11 mm. The bezel is fixed. The protection for the gold-tone dial is provided by a Hardlex crystal, Seiko's proprietary treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. Water resistance is 30m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNKK38J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement has neither hacking (second hand stop for time setting) nor manual winding—two functions intentionally absent from this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy oscillates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The Seiko SNKK38J1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, both robust and easy to maintain, secured by a deployment clasp, which makes it easy to put on and take off the watch while securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 18 mm.
