Seiko 5 Silver SNKM85J1: 40-hour power reserve, 37 mm, 18 mm lug width
Collection
The Seiko SNKM85J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 series, continuously produced for over six decades. It is one of the rare entry-level automatics to rely on an in-house caliber: the 7S26, which is reliable and inexpensive to maintain. It features a 37 mm case, 30 m water resistance, and an exhibition case back to observe the rotor.
Case
The stainless steel case of the Seiko SNKM85J1 measures 37 mm in diameter and 11 mm in thickness. The bezel is fixed. The dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 30 m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNKM85J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not have hacking (second hand stop for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy hovers around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SNKM85J1, secured by a folding clasp, complements the case with coherence. The lug width is 18 mm.
