Golden hues and accessible mechanics: Seiko 5 SNKP20J1, 37 mm, 30 m
Collection
The Seiko SNKP20J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 series, which has been in continuous production for over six decades. It is one of the few entry-level automatics to rely on an in-house caliber: the 7S26, which is reliable and low-maintenance. It features a 37 mm case, 30 m water resistance, and an exhibition case back to observe the rotor.
Case
Made of stainless steel, the case of the Seiko SNKP20J1 measures 37 mm in diameter and 11 mm in thickness. The bezel is fixed. The dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment that resists light scratches. The case back is an exhibition (transparent) type, allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 30 m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNKP20J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not have hacking (second hand stop for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy oscillates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Strap
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SNKP20J1, secured by a folding clasp, complements the case with coherence. The lug width is 18 mm.
