Golden Hues and Accessible Mechanics: Seiko 5 SNXS80J1, 37mm, 30m
Collection
The Seiko SNXS80J1 is part of the Seiko 5 range, one of the most iconic lines in Japanese watchmaking. Launched in 1963, this collection embodies accessible automatics: a 37mm case, a 21-jewel 7S26 caliber, and 30m water resistance. Note: the 7S26 does not have hacking or manual winding—an intentional characteristic of this entry-level caliber.
Case
The case of the Seiko SNXS80J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 37mm and a thickness of 11mm. The bezel is fixed. The protection of the gold dial is provided by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 30m, suitable for splashes and rain.
Movement
The Seiko SNXS80J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S26, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not have hacking (stopping the second hand for setting the time) or manual winding—two intentionally absent functions on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy oscillates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment.
Bracelet
The Seiko SNXS80J1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, both robust and easy to maintain, secured by a deployant clasp, which facilitates putting on and taking off the watch while securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 18mm.
