Seiko 5 Sports SNZB23J2: automatic 7S36, 42 mm, 100 m water resistant

The Seiko SNZB23J2 belongs to the Seiko 5 Sports collection, revamped in 2019. Compared to the classic Seiko 5, the new generation features the 7S36 caliber with hacking (stop-second function) and manual winding, an exhibition case back, 100m water resistance, and an interchangeable strap system. The case measures 42 mm.

Case

The case of the Seiko SNZB23J2 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 12 mm. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for precise measurement of dive times. The protection of the black dial is ensured by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing the movement to be observed in operation. The water resistance is 100 m, sufficient for swimming and snorkeling. The indices and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended night readability.

Movement

The Seiko SNZB23J2 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S36, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not have hacking (stop-second for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy hovers around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment. The day-date display is positioned at 3 o'clock.

Strap

The Seiko SNZB23J2 is equipped with a rubber strap, flexible and resistant to water and perspiration, secured by a pin buckle, classic and easy to adjust. The lug width is 22 mm.
