The Seiko SNZG09J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 Sports collection, re-launched in 2019. Compared to the classic Seiko 5, the new generation incorporates the 7S36 caliber with hacking (stop seconds hand) and manual winding, an exhibition case back, 100m water resistance, and an interchangeable strap system. The case measures 42mm.

Case

The case of the Seiko SNZG09J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 12 mm. The bezel is fixed. The protection of the Green dial is ensured by a Hardlex crystal, Seiko's proprietary treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 100 m, sufficient for swimming and snorkeling. The indexes and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent for prolonged nocturnal readability.

Movement

The Seiko SNZG09J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S36, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement has neither hacking (stop seconds hand for setting the time) nor manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy oscillates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment. The day-date display is positioned at 3 o'clock.

Strap

The Seiko SNZG09J1 is equipped with a NATO-style nylon strap, light and breathable, ideal for sports use, closed by a classic and easy-to-adjust pin buckle. The lug width is 22 mm.
