Seiko 5 Sports Blue 42 mm: 7S36 with Hacking, 22 mm Lug Width

The Seiko SNZG11J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 Sports collection, re-launched in 2019. Compared to the classic Seiko 5, the new generation features the 7S36 caliber with hacking (stop-seconds) and manual winding, an exhibition case back, 100m water resistance, and an interchangeable strap system. The case measures 42 mm.

Case

The case of the Seiko SNZG11J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 12 mm. The bezel is fixed. The blue dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, a proprietary Seiko treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing the movement to be observed in operation. Water resistance is 100 m, sufficient for swimming and snorkeling. The indexes and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended nighttime readability.

Movement

The Seiko SNZG11J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S36, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not feature hacking (stop-seconds for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy fluctuates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment. The day-date display is positioned at 3 o'clock.

Strap

The Seiko SNZG11J1 is equipped with a NATO-style nylon strap, lightweight and breathable, ideal for sports use, closed by a classic and easily adjustable pin buckle. The lug width is 22 mm.
