Seiko 5 Sports SNZG13J1: Automatic 7S36, 42mm, 100m Water Resistant

The Seiko SNZG13J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 Sports collection, re-established in 2019. Compared to the classic Seiko 5, the new generation features the 7S36 caliber with hacking (stop-second hand) and manual winding, an exhibition case back, 100m water resistance, and an interchangeable strap system. The case measures 42mm.

Case

The case of the Seiko SNZG13J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 12 mm. The bezel is fixed. The Black dial is protected by a Hardlex crystal, Seiko's proprietary treatment for light scratches. The case back is an exhibition (transparent) type, allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 100 m, sufficient for swimming and snorkeling. The indexes and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended night-time legibility.

Movement

The Seiko SNZG13J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S36, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not feature hacking (stop-second hand for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy fluctuates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment. The day-date display is positioned at 3 o'clock.

Strap

The Seiko SNZG13J1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, which is both robust and easy to maintain, fastened by a deployant clasp, which makes it easy to put on and take off the watch while securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 22 mm.
