The Seiko SNZJ05J1 belongs to the Seiko 5 Sports collection, revamped in 2019. Compared to the classic Seiko 5, the new generation incorporates the 7S36 caliber with hacking (stop seconds hand) and manual winding, an exhibition case back, 100 m water resistance, and an interchangeable strap system. The case measures 42 mm.

Case

The case of the Seiko SNZJ05J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 12 mm. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for precise dive time measurement. The protection of the black dial is ensured by a Hardlex crystal, Seiko's proprietary treatment for light scratches. The case back is exhibition (transparent), allowing observation of the movement in operation. The water resistance is 100 m, sufficient for swimming and snorkeling. The markers and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended nighttime readability.

Movement

The Seiko SNZJ05J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 7S36, offering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. This movement does not feature hacking (stop seconds hand for time setting) or manual winding — two functions intentionally absent on this entry-level caliber. Its accuracy fluctuates around ±15 seconds per day, which is expected for an automatic movement in this segment. The day-date display is positioned at 3 o'clock.

Bracelet

The Seiko SNZJ05J1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, both robust and easy to maintain, closed by a folding clasp, which makes it easy to put on and take off the watch while securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 22 mm.
