Seiko Braille SWL001J5: The Ladies' Tactile Watch, for Telling Time Without Seeing It
Collection
The Seiko SWL001J5 belongs to Seiko's Braille collection, a distinct line in the watchmaking world. Since 1939, Seiko has been committed to the inclusion of visually impaired and blind people: first with a tactile pocket watch, then with the first Braille wristwatch in 1966, and today with modern models like the SWL001J5. Its principle is simple and ingenious: the acrylic crystal opens on a hinge, allowing the wearer to place their fingers on the hands and raised markers to tell the time independently, without needing sight, and without anyone around noticing.
Case
The case of the Seiko SWL001J5 is made of silver-colored stainless steel, with a diameter of 26 mm, compact and discreet on the wrist. The acrylic crystal is hinged, attached to the top of the case and opening upwards to reveal the dial. The hour and minute hands are raised and well differentiated to be easily identifiable by touch. The markers are embossed, with more pronounced marks at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions to facilitate orientation. The crystal closes discreetly, and the watch then regains the appearance of a classic model.
Movement
The Seiko SWL001J5 is powered by the 4J27 quartz caliber, precise and reliable, displaying the hours and minutes with absolute regularity day after day.
Strap
The Seiko SWL001J5 is equipped with a black leather strap, supple and comfortable, fastened by a classic pin buckle. The lug width is 14 mm.
