The Prospex 1965 Reimagined in Black: Automatic 6R35, 70-hour Power Reserve
Collection
The Seiko SPB239J1 belongs to the Prospex 1965 Heritage line, a direct homage to Seiko's first diver from 1965, the 62MAS. This model retains the short-lug case, clean dial, and period proportions—here at 44.3 mm—while incorporating modern standards: anti-reflective sapphire crystal, 6R35 caliber with manual winding, and water resistance increased to 200m.
Case
The case of the Seiko SPB239J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 44.3 mm and a thickness of 13.4 mm. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for precise measurement of dive times. The black dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, the most scratch-resistant, with an anti-reflective coating. The case back is a solid screw-down design. Water resistance is 200m, conforming to ISO 6425 diving standards. The indices and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended night visibility. The case benefits from a Dia-Shield treatment (super-hard coating) which improves its scratch resistance.
Movement
The Seiko SPB239J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 6R35, offering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The 6R caliber is the high-end of Seiko's production automatic movements: it features hacking and manual winding, and offers a significantly longer power reserve than the 4R calibers.
Strap
The Seiko SPB239J1 is equipped with a NATO-style nylon strap, light and breathable, ideal for sports use, fastened with a classic and easy-to-adjust pin buckle. The lug width is 20 mm.
