The Prospex 1965 revisited in blue: automatic 6R55, 70-hour power reserve
Collection
The Seiko SPB451J1 belongs to the Prospex 1965 Heritage range, a direct tribute to Seiko's first diver's watch from 1965, the 62MAS. This model features the short-lug case, clean dial, and period proportions—here in 42 mm—while incorporating modern standards: anti-reflective sapphire crystal, 6R55 caliber with manual winding, and water resistance increased to 200 m.
Case
The case of the Seiko SPB451J1 is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 13.8 mm. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for precise measurement of dive times. The blue dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, the most scratch-resistant, with an anti-reflective coating. The case back is solid screw-down. Water resistance is 200 m, compliant with ISO 6425 diving standards. The indices and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended nighttime legibility. The case benefits from a Dia-Shield treatment (super-hard coating) which improves its scratch resistance.
Movement
The Seiko SPB451J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 6R55, offering a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The 6R caliber is the high-end of standard Seiko automatic movements: it features hacking and manual winding, and offers a significantly longer power reserve than 4R calibers.
Bracelet
The Seiko SPB451J1 is equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, which is both robust and easy to maintain, secured by a folding clasp, which makes it easy to put on and take off the watch while securing the bracelet to the wrist. The lug width is 20 mm.
