Modernized Vintage Diver: SPB453J1 in Black, 200m, Anti-Reflective Sapphire Crystal
Collection
With the Seiko SPB453J1, the Prospex collection pays tribute to the brand's founding diver. The 1965 62MAS was Seiko's first diving watch; this re-edition preserves its aesthetics — luminous baton indices, dark black dial, 42mm case with short lugs — while adding a 6R55 caliber with a 70-hour power reserve and a curved sapphire crystal.
Case
Made of stainless steel, the case of the Seiko SPB453J1 measures 42 mm in diameter and 13.8 mm in thickness. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for precise measurement of dive times. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, the most scratch-resistant, with an anti-reflective coating. The case back is solid screwed. Water resistance is 200 m, conforming to ISO 6425 diving standards. The indices and hands are coated with LumiBrite, Seiko's luminescent material for extended nighttime legibility. The case benefits from a Dia-Shield treatment (super-hard coating) which improves its scratch resistance.
Movement
The Seiko SPB453J1 is powered by the automatic caliber 6R55, offering a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The 6R caliber is the high-end of Seiko's production automatic movements: it features hacking and manual winding, and offers a significantly longer power reserve than the 4R calibers.
Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SPB453J1, secured by a folding clasp, complements the case coherently. The lug width is 20 mm.
